Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said that 5G will be launched on a trial basis this year. He was speaking at the 'BSRF Dialogue' organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the Media Center of the Secretariat on Wednesday.
The minister said about 95 per cent of internet users use mobile phones. In this case, the biggest technology that is needed is to have at least 4G. As a result, the challenge for us was whether we could expand to 4G. We have been able to expand 4G in 2020 with almost all operators. But there are still some mechanical difficulties.
You will be happy to know that I will launch Five-G experimentally by 2021. We will expand it in 2022. We hope that by 2022, all our operators will be able to develop Five-G technology.
Highlighting the development of Bangladesh in technology, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications said Bangladesh now exports software to 80 countries of the world. We export mobile phones. We export laptops and digital devices. Now about 60 percent of the mobiles needed in Bangladesh are being made in the country. Smartphones are being made in about 85 percent of the countries.
